Mandatory Update of Business Activities on EmaraTax Portal

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has announced an important update regarding the amendment of the ‘Business Activities’ field on the EmaraTax portal. This has to be undertaken mandatorily.

Previously, businesses were required to select a primary business activity from a limited list of main categories and three sub-categories. To streamline this process, the FTA has now simplified the requirement by reducing the selection to only one field. Taxpayers must now choose their business activity using a search function provided on the portal. Multiple activities may be selected, but one must be designated as the primary activity.

The key steps for Tax payers are summarized below:

  1. Login to the EmaraTax portal
  2. On first login, you may choose to skip the update by selecting “Remind Me Later”
  3. Upon your next login, you will be required to complete the update before accessing the portal
  4. Use the search function under “Update Business Activity” to find and select the activity most relevant to your business
  5. Mark one activity as ‘Primary’ and submit
  6. You may add additional activities as secondary ones if applicable

While the FTA has not set a specific deadline for completion, failure to update the business activity information will result in restricted access to the portal after the first login.
